This is a minor update to Froyd 1.7.2 with updated google apps, and a security fix.

All users are encouraged to install this fix as soon as possible. It will likely require a full wipe though :( Unfortunately that's required due to the nature of this fix.

This is FroydVillain 1.7, with all available updates installed, so there is no need to install other patches after this.

You can download the ROM at http://www.villainrom.co.uk/releases/FroydVillain-1.7.3-R2/Froyd1.7.3-R2-signed.zip

The MD5 of the file is

    Code:
    80049a1b20d22f5ff3c64d8d55a8585e Froyd1.7.3-R2-signed.zip

Let me know below if we have any problems, as I've only tested this on one device, with a full wipe.

    Enjoy :)

Awesome, cheers dude. Did a full wipe and flashed. reading as Froyd 1.7.2-R2.

(just a heads up. I could be wrong but when i added the gingerbread theme back on to the phone it pretty much caused all apps to fail after boot, so had recover. all good now though. :) )

Yes, that's unfortunately what will happen. Themes need to be re-based against this ROM now :( It's essential though unfortunately that people update.

    What does the update fix?
  5. pulser Administrator

New google apps and a security issue. Issue will be detailed at a later date, but not just now...

Seems to work great. Very Snappy! My beloved Hero is stable and much faster after this update. Probably because it was getting low on space, and this time I moved more stuff to SD.
So I guess I'll keep it for some more months before buying the Samsung S II..

Is it worth waiting for a full 1.7.3 release before installing this?
  8. pulser Administrator

No. I'd suggest to install this one just now.

It is confusing because the name says R2...
    I will install it!
  13. pulser Administrator

OK. The R2 is to indicate this is the second "issue" of this Version of FroydVillain, rather than a major update.

    Dalvik2SD and Cache2SD

    Hy there folks.

First of all, I must say it has been always a thrill, since back in the days of Villainrom 5 or something like this, to receive always the best updates through the wonderfull Villainroms to my beloved Hero. You guys are great in keeping it alive to fight another battles.

Anyways, I digress. For quite some time now I experience an annoying issue. Regardless my ext2 partion never gets filled halfway, I always get that annoying "low storage space" messages, no matter what I do. One day I discovered that that was due the cache and dalvik cache filling up the extremely small Hero storage capacity.

I tried to run some scripts that would move those big guys to the ext2 partition, and then things would be super one more time. The thing is I never got them to work on Villainrom 1.7.3.

I wonder if there are working scripts that will do the job in this version.

Anyways, I appreciate any intel on this annoying subject.

Thank-you, flashed 1.7.3-R2 with no problems. On Telus in Toronto and planning to run this Hero for another 1.5 years so the updates are appreciated!

Flashed. All good - wifi works fine for me. On Three in the UK.

I'm a bit confused, this isn't an incremental update then, so I don't flash this over 1.7.0?

Is there a Kitchen for it, or don't I need to worry about that? :)

All good, including wi-fi, now! Brilliant work! thanks!

Strange, since I flashed the r3, I have my phone powering off when streaming radio without the power cable. It makes as if I had no battery left. When I put it back on, it shows 1 % battery life. I restart again it is back at the level it was before... any idea? I tried with all radio apps (tunein, etc) they all do the same after 5-10 minutes streaming... thanks
